The first Chapter muster was held at Paradise RV Park near Bowie, TX 9-11 May 1996 with 14 members
and 2 guests present. Chapter officers were sworn in by Chaplain James Mahan. Chapter By-Laws were
adopted after being revised to include spouses as voting members on all Chapter business (a first in
SMART history as no other Chapter allowed spouses to vote on Chapter issues).Current Chapter
membership stands at 65.
Annual Chapter dues are $5 for singles and $10 for couples. A person who is a SMART member or joins
SMART at the same time he/she joins the Chapter may receive their first year membership free providing
the person is not a member of another SMART Chapter. A year is defined as starting January 1 and
ending December 31. Full annual dues are required of anyone joining the Chapter between January 1
and June 30; one-half (1/2) annual dues are required of anyone joining the Chapter between 1 July and
December 31.
The Chapter holds at least four musters each year. One is held in conjunction with a Regional Muster
and another in conjunction with the National Muster. There is no limit to the number of musters a
Chapter may hold in a year so we try to work in as many as possible without interfering with other
Chapter' musters. We usually visit historical/scenic/interesting local sites, have seminars on items of
interest to RVing and have a catered dinner. We may also have a covered-dish dinner so we all get to
sample each others favorite dishes. We may even enjoy a pay-as-you-go lunch/dinner at a local
restaurant. We're dedicated to keeping the military spirit alive, having fun, meeting new people and
helping others. We are currently assisting the OK SMARTS with the restoration of historic Fort
Chadbourne near Bronte, TX. The Ok's began volunteering in 2005 and will continue until restoration is
complete. Visit our Chapter photo site: http://new.photos.yahoo.com/c6r32h1632 @sbcglobal.net to
view photographs of some of the projects we helped with last year. We have a Chapter newsletter that's
published in March, June, September and December. To view future T/O Chapter Musters check the
Muster Schedule link.
