Updates to the Muster Calendar are regularly posted.  Check the schedule for changes
and new postings.  As fuel prices may be keeping us closer to home, would anyone like to
step forward and host/sponsor a muster?  How about Co-hosting?

Also, if you see that the Chapter will be holding a muster in your neck of the woods and
know of special events and/or activities, please let us know.  Maybe we can get those
scheduled in to the muster.

Please contact Marlin Howze at:
mhowze@hughes.net or telephone at 830-372-1033 with
your ideas and suggestions.  Enjoy camping.

Our Chapter has anywhere between 5-7 musters each year.  Each muster normally starts on a
Thursday and ends on Sunday or Monday but this may vary depending on the location and
activities.  Musters are usually held within a 150 mile radius of San Antonio, TX.   During our musters
we have a combination of potluck, host cooked, and catered meals from which it would be rare to
depart feeling hungry.  We usually have an “attitude adjustment” period preceding the evening
meal.  During this time we sometimes sell 50/50 tickets with 3 different winners who divide 50% of the
ticket sales with the other 50% going to our favorite charity project—“VETERANS HELPING
VETERANS” to which we have contributed more than $16,000 to date.  For nearly 7 years we
supported the San Antonio located Audie Murphy VA Hospital and the Kerrville, TX VA Hospital to
purchase TV sets for hospitalized veterans and then later the 4 FISHER HOUSES on Ft Sam
Houston.  We recently voted to take on a new beneficiary of our charitable efforts by designating the
WARRIOR and FAMILY SUPPORT CENTER, presently under construction on Ft Sam Houston in
San Antonio, as the recipient of our efforts.  This project is under the sponsorship of the
RETURNING HEROES HOME Foundation.

We like to explore the areas where we camp by having tours or providing information for self-guided
tours.  Being from the San Antonio area (“military city USA”), we have the largest Chapter in
SMART.  Many of our members belong to other Chapters in our SMW Region as we enjoy the
friendship and camaraderie of other Chapter members.  Check our Regional web site: www.
smwregion-smart.org  periodically for updated Chapter information, Newsletter, and muster
information.  We’d love to have you join this very active Chapter; come to a muster and check us
out.  We think you will enjoy the activities of the ALAMO SMARTS Chapter.  Contact one of the
officers or the Recruiting/Retention liaison: Jay Maust;
